Food Service Worker - WG-3 Salary Range:
$17.
64 - $20.
59 per hour The incumbent serves as a Food Service Worker in any of food preparation and service areas of the Finger Lakes VA health Care System for the Bath Facility.
Wage Grade 2 perform tasks with several steps or a sequence of tasks that requires attention to work operations.
They follow set procedures in accomplishing repetitive assignments and follow an established sequence of work such as working in the dish room, passing trays, portioning cold foods, and dipping hot food.

Duties:
Major duties include but are not limited to the following:
Sets up dining room tables for service, place food and beverages on tables, and replenishes items as necessary.
Identifies obvious discrepancies between the prescribed diets and the food items designated by the menu.
Uses general sanitation principles to safeguard food against spoilage and waste.
Prevents contamination by cleaning equipment previously used for raw food.
Prepares boxed/to go meals.
Organizes work in a logical sequence.
Serves food cafeteria style by placing uniform portions of food on customers'/patients'/residents' plates.
Prepares fresh fruit/cold salads/dressings/sandwich fillings and cold sandwiches and simple cold desserts in specified quantities.
Provides assistance to cook in the food preparation area, such as weigh, measure and assemble ingredients according to standardized recipes.
Prepares uncooked food items, such as sandwich spread and salad dressings.
Prepares beverages according to the number of servings required.
Selects and places correct items on trays.
Read and interpret a regular or modified menu, individual diet cards, tray tickets or patient selections.
Understands of food terminology, measurements, and serving information in standardized recipes and menus.
Sorts, washes, peels and cuts cold foods using knives or other equipment.
Sets up assigned station with the correct supplies and food items.
Operates and breaks down and cleans all equipment assigned to food service and related areas.
Scrapes, soaks, scours, and scrubs cookware and utensils.
Breaks down and cleans food stations.
Separates food waste, trash/recyclables from dishes, glasses and silverware.
Returns soiled trays and dishes to the dish room.
Performs heavy-duty cleaning tasks throughout the food service and related areas.
Unloads food/tray delivery carts.
Moves garbage cans when collecting and transferring trash from the work area to the disposal area
Qualifications:
Applicant's resume must reflect one of the following statements:
(a) I have obtained a high school diploma/GED, completed a lengthy training program, performed substantial volunteer work, or have other life experiences (e.

, armed forces) that demonstrates my ability to perform the work of a Food Service Worker dependably.
I have never had an unexcused absence from school or work.
I have received recognition and/or positive performance evaluations for my work and/or attendance, or I have been selected for special job(s) due to reliability; (b) I am able to provide continuous and dependable service performing work of a Food Service Worker.
My past performance in school, in the community, armed forces, and/or part-time jobs has been above average.
I have performed above average on school or work projects that were assigned to me and have had very few unexcused absences from school or work; (c) My past performance in school, in the community, armed forces, and/or part-time jobs has been average, and I have the potential to perform work of a Food Service Worker dependably.
I am generally reliable and responsible but have occasionally had unexcused absences from school or work.
