Forestry technician 2 will work under the direction of a Forester 1 and will support the Bureau of Wildlife's Forest Management Program on Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs) in DEC's Region 8. Primary duties will include:
- Preform all tasks related to forest inventory on WMAs including create inventory projects in GIS, collect field data and enter it into the State Forest Inventory Database, create cover type maps - Preform tasks related to forest management on WMAs including:
mark state-owned timber sales, volume/value summation, create sale maps in GIS and administration of timber sales to ensure contract compliance - Preform land management on WMAs including work focused on invasive species management, boundary line maintenance and public access - Communicate with the public about DEC's Forest Management Program on WMAs - Supervise Forestry Technician 1 This position involves both field and office work. Field work will include driving a state vehicle to work sites, working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions, walking and navigating on uneven terrain for several miles. Preferred candidate will be proficient in ArcGIS, Microsoft Office 365 products including Excel, Word and Outlook.

Salary Range:
From $50347 to $61330 Annually

Qualifications:
An associates or higher-level degree in forestry, forest biology, forest resource management, or forest technology, AND one year of diversified, technical forestry experience in two or more of the following areas:
forest health, forest inventory, forest management, or timber sale marking including administration. Reassignment - Currently in the title and an employee of DEC or Reinstatement Eligible - Previously held the title on a permanent competitive basis or held a title as indicated under the transfer eligible section on a permanent competitive basis. or Transfer Eligible - One year of permanent competitive service at Salary Grade 11 or higher or:
