Forestry Technician 1 (Seasonal)

This technician will work under the direction of a Forester 1 and will support the Bureau of Wildlife's Forest Management Program on WMAs in DEC Region 8. Primary duties will include:
- Preforming all tasks associated with forest inventory on various Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs) - Assisting with timber sale preparation and administration on WMAs - Assisting with land management on WMAs including work focusing on invasive species, boundary line maintenance and public access - Communicating with the public about DEC's Forest Management Program on WMAs This position mostly involves field work but will also include office work. Field work will include driving to work sites, working outdoors in a variety of elements, and walking and navigating on uneven terrain (sometimes for several miles). Office work will primarily include email management and data entry and management.

Salary Range:
From $17.69 to $17.69 Hourly
Minimum Qualification
Thirty (30) semester credit hours, including or supplemented by twelve (12) semester credit hours in forestry which must include at least one course in three or more of the following areas:
silviculture, forest mensuration, forest protection, forest soils, dendrology botany, land surveying and forest biology, OR one (1) year of diversified, technical forestry experience in two (2) or more of the following areas:
forest management, including sale and removal of timber products; nursery management, including the transplanting of tree or shrub seedlings; forest pest management, including control of diseases and insect pests. Preferred
Qualifications:
Familiar with spreadsheet, mapping (GPS/GIS) and data management. Good communication skills, ability to work well with others and independently, and a willingness to learn.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
